Extra Innings offers individualized, year round professional baseball and softball instruction. Our staff uses a uniform step-by-step teaching system to encourage positive progress with all our students.

The Extra Innings staff features former and current professional players, college all-stars, and area college and high school coaches.

Coach Virgil Chevalier

Virgil Chevalier is the senior instructor for both baseball and softball with Extra Innings. Virgil played nine years of professional baseball in the Boston Red Sox and NY Mets organizations (1995 – 2003) with the last four years at Triple AAA Pawtucket (Red Sox) and Norfolk (Mets). Virgil’s versatility allowed him to excel in playing catcher, first base, third base, and the outfield. His career minor league totals included a batting average of .274; a slugging percentage of .411; with 961 career hits, 80 home runs, and 516 RBI’s. Since 2003, Coach Chevalier has successfully taught hundreds of youth and senior league baseball and softball enthusiasts in the great Capital District. Coach Chevalier is now available exclusively for private lessons at Extra Innings.

 
Instructor – Matt McMahon

Instructor – Coach Matt McMahon

Coach McMahon is a baseball coach with the Catskill Central School District. A graduate of Sage College with a BS in Physical Education, Matt is currently completing his MS in Physical Education through Canisius College. As a member of the Upstate New York College Baseball Umpires Association, Matt works NCAA Division I, II, and III as well the NECBL and the prestigious Cape Cod League during the summer. Matt is also on the reserve list for the Carolina, International, and NY-Penn leagues. Matt offers Extra Innings his unique and specialized experience for all levels of umpire instruction along with baseball skills instruction..

 
Coach Laura Rogers

Instructor – Coach Laura Rogers

Coach Laura Rogers is the Pitching Coach for the DII Golden Knights of the College of Saint Rose. A 2004 graduate of Schuylerville High School, Coach Laura Rogers was selected Saratoga Player of the Year in 2004 and was named to the All-State Team in both 2003 and 2004. As a player at Hudson Valley Community College, Coach Rogers, a pitcher and shortstop, was named team captain and became an All-American selection in 2006. After HVCC, Laura played for Castleton State College and was named 1st Team All NAC (North Atlantic Conference). Coach Rogers conducts camps, clinics and is available for private lessons for pitching, fielding and hitting.

 

Instructor – Coach Chris Hackett

Extra Innings hitting & pitching coach Chris Hackett was a RH Pitcher for Division I – U Albany.  Chris was a Saratoga High School baseball standout earning Team Captain status in both his junior and senior years.  In his senior year he was also voted Team MVP and Suburban Council All-Star.  Chris played summer ball for the Niagara Power and the Saratoga Stampede, and in 2011 played for the Syracuse Salt Cats of the NYCBL.  Chris is available for private & group lessons as well as participating in many Extra Innings camps & clinics.  

 

Instructor – Coach Ryan Myers

Ryan Myers is currently the D1 Hitting Coach for Siena College. Ryan, a CBA graduate from Clifton Park was a 4-year starter at Oneonta State. Ryan played catcher and 1st base as a college player and Earned All-Region Honors his sophomore, junior and senior years. Also during his time at Oneonta, Ryan set a single season school record with 47 RBIs his junior year. He was also top 3 in school history in Doubles and Fielding Percentage. Ryan also played for the Stuttgart Reds of the Bundesliga Professional Baseball League (DBV) in Stuttgart, Germany. Ryan is available for group and private Hitting and Catching lessons through Extra Innings.

 

Instructor – Coach Jodi Wheeler

Coach Jodi Wheeler was a 2001 graduate of Skidmore College with a BS degree in Exercise Science. A 4-year starting catcher at Skidmore, Jodi was Captain of the team from 1999-2001 and team MVP all three years. Jodi then became the Assistant softball coach at Skidmore College during the 2006 and 2007 seasons. During her playing career, Jodi earned the status of First Team All-Conference in 2000 and 2001; Second Team All-Conference in 1999; and Team Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in 1999. Jodi is the Skidmore record holder for most RBI’s in a single game (8); and in 2001 she was Nationally ranked in the Top 20 players for batting average in NCAA Division III Softball. For the past eight years Jodi has been the Recreation, Fitness and Special Events Director for Hawkeye Management/US Navy. Jodi is available for team instruction, and private instruction exclusively at Extra Innings.
